Dealing with problem debt

More people than ever before are getting into debt or finding it difficult to live on the money they earn or receive. We can help if you are struggling with debt and money issues. Dealing with money issues can sometimes be stressful and it’s easy to put off dealing with them. If you are confused about things like credit charges, or which bills you should pay first, you could end up losing out financially or getting yourself in a cycle of debt which is difficult to break. The Citizens Advice Service in Essex comprises member local Citizens Advice that have a great deal of expertise in supporting their clients with debt problems. In fact, debt is within the top three enquiry areas for most of the network in Essex, Southend and Thurrock. Some of our member’s specific capabilities include: • Employment of Debt Relief Order intermediaries or where not, capacity to refer to national DRO administration schemes • Support to apply for relief under the new “Breathing Space” provisions • Managed casework services – including supporting clients remotely • Support for clients facing repossession at court for mortgage/rent arrears – including referral to in-house Specialist Legal Aid Housing where appropriate • In house training for teams – supporting greater debt awareness
